Board of Directors

Election

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association is governed by an approximately 40 member Board of Directors.  The Executive Director manages the association’s affairs.  Board members are elected, rather than appointed, by the association’s voting membership to four year terms.  Board seats are assigned according to geographic region, the exception being young alumni board members, and approximately 25% of board seats are up for election each year.  Click here to see a detailed description of board composition.  Election ballots are printed in the June issue of the Alumnews.  Only current UWAA members have voting rights.

Purpose

The board carries out objectives and purposes specified in UWAA’s bylaws.  It provides strategic direction, makes operational recommendations, and holds fiduciary responsibility for the association.  Click here to see of summary of the association's current strategic plan.  The full board meets twice yearly, with more frequent committee meetings in between.   Work is divided among board members according to committee assignment.  Serving on the board is a rewarding experience, but one that requires commitment.  UWAA board members are volunteers in the truest sense; not only do they give of their time, they pay for all expenses associated with required board travel.

Committees

There are five standing committees of the board that reflect UWAA’s programs:  scholarship; membership and outreach; publications; fundraising and special projects; and student recruitment and enrichment.  The board’s elected officers – the Executive Committee – provide additional guidance and direction for association affairs.  The Executive Committee includes eight elected vice presidents and UWAA’s past president, president, and president elect.  The scholarship committee makes recommendations regarding scholarship distribution, for both the UWAA and UW License Plate programs, and the annual scholarship club auction.  The membership and outreach committee discusses membership benefits and alumni outreach activities.  The fundraising and special projects committee is charged with developing initiatives of interest to alumni and funding those efforts.  The publications committee makes recommendations regarding the Alumnews and the association’s online presence.  The student recruitment and enrichment committee proposes ways to recruit students to the university and provide them with support.
